Members of the WMTCC have been working hard the past few months to fund new trail construction in Mill Creek.
The proposed ‘Mill Creek Overlook Trail’ will access the North Rim walls from the Mill Creek Trailhead.
Once approved and in addition to the trail construction, the WMTCC will be hosting a few trail days in the coming year and focusing on improvement of the base areas beneath the ‘Tick Farm’ climbs. These belay areas are currently in terrible condition and efforts to improve the surfaces will be included in the upcoming trail days.
The WMTCC also applied for funding from a Trail Stewardship Project Grant from State of Montana, Fish Wildlife and Parks. The grant request for $31,000 dollars was submitted last month and the WMTCC will know soon if the grant request was approved. In addition to the amount requested the WMTCC is required to match roughly a third of the amount with volunteer labor. This is where you come in!
The WMTCC plans to host a few trail days to work along side a trail building company to get the proposed trail and the base areas beneath the ‘Tick Farm’ wall safe and sustainable.
CALL TO ACTION:
Please join us on Wednesday March 4th, 2026 at Higher Ground Brewery in Hamilton, MT for a fundraiser and pint night to support trail stewardship and learn more about this amazing project the WMTCC is working on. We will go more into depth on the Mill Creek Overlook Trail as well as talk about some of the bolt replacement work in the Bitterroot that has occurred in the past year.
Additionally, there is a new climbing gym in the works in Hamilton! The Bitterroot Rock Gym owners, Sage and Lucas, will be there to discuss the plans for the new gym and answer questions. We'll have more information about the new gym on this blog in the near future.
If you aren’t a member yet, you can sign up on the website (click "Join" on the top menu) or you can sign up when you come to the Pint Night on March.
